Sedation is administered only when necessary. For critically ill patients, prior permission from the referring consultant may be required. In children, oral sedation is preferred over intravenous (IV) sedation. A proper assessment of the patient is conducted before administering IV sedation. Informed consent from the patient or an attendant is mandatory, and prior appointment is recommended.
For Oral Sedation
For oral sedation, it is generally effective in children weighing up to 10 kg. Parents are advised to bring the child in a fasting state as much as possible. Attendants should also carry milk or the child's preferred food. In most cases, oral sedation remains the preferred method for children.
For IV sedation
For IV sedation, a fasting period of 4 to 6 hours is required, and patient assessment is essential before proceeding.
