Obstetric ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging modality used to assess the health, growth, and development of the fetus throughout pregnancy. It provides real-time visualization of the fetus, placenta, amniotic fluid, and maternal reproductive organs. Common applications include confirming gestational age, monitoring fetal growth, detecting congenital anomalies, assessing fetal well-being, and evaluating placental position or abnormalities. Doppler ultrasound assesses blood flow in the umbilical cord, fetal vessels, and maternal circulation, helping detect conditions like fetal growth restriction or preeclampsia. Obstetric ultrasound is safe, widely available, and essential for prenatal care, guiding clinical decisions and ensuring maternal and fetal health.
