Neck ultrasound is a non-invasive, real-time imaging technique used to evaluate the thyroid, parathyroid, salivary glands, lymph nodes, carotid arteries, and soft tissues of the cervical region. High-frequency linear transducers provide detailed assessment of size, shape, echotexture, and vascularity of superficial structures. It is commonly used to detect thyroid nodules, cysts, goiters, parathyroid adenomas, salivary gland masses, and lymphadenopathy, as well as to guide fine-needle aspiration or core biopsy. Doppler imaging helps in assessing vascularity, arterial flow, and identification of vascular anomalies or tumors. The examination involves systematic scanning in transverse and longitudinal planes, with attention to both superficial and deeper cervical structures. Neck ultrasound is safe, radiation-free, and repeatable, making it valuable for diagnosis.
