Conjunctival Swab Left Eye For Culture Sensitivity (Automated)

SPECIAL MICROBIOLOGY

Conjunctival Swab Left Eye For Culture Sensitivity (Automated)

Also Known As: Left Eye C/S
This test identifies bacteria or fungi causing infection in the conjunctiva (the membrane covering the white part of the eye). After collecting a swab from the left eye, the sample is grown in culture and analyzed with automated systems to identify the organism and determine which antibiotics (or antifungals) the organism is sensitive to. This test is done when patients have symptoms suggestive of eye infection like redness of the eye, excessive tearing, stickiness of eyelids, eye pain or irritation etc. This test helps to identify the exact cause of conjunctivitis, guide the right antibiotic eye drops, improving recovery. It is especially important in contact lens users and post-surgical infections, where Pseudomonas and fungal infections are common.

1. What is Special Microbiology?
Special Microbiology refers to a branch of microbiology that focuses on identifying, studying, and analyzing microorganisms that are not routinely detected in standard microbiology tests.
2. How long do reports take?
Report in 2 days.
3. Why this test is taking longer time ?
This test take longer time because it involve growing the actual microorganisms and the process is slow.
4. Are these tests important?
The conjunctival culture and sensitivity test is a laboratory test that detects microorganisms in the eye’s conjunctiva (the membrane covering the white of the eye and inner eyelids) and determines which antibiotics or treatments are effective.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
