About This Test
BAL C&S (Culture & Sensitivity) test, where BAL stands for Bronchoalveolar Lavage. It’s especially useful in patients when a simple sputum sample is not enough or is negative, but there is strong clinical suspicion of a lung infection. In ventilated patients or immunocompromised patients, BAL culture can detect pathogens (bacteria, fungi, TB) that other methods might miss. In this test, the lab tries to grow bacteria or fungi present in the BAL fluid and shows what microorganism is causing infection. Once a microbe is grown, it’s tested against different antibiotics to see which drugs are effective at killing it. This helps doctors choose the best antibiotic for treatment.

Report in 2 days.
3. Why this test is taking longer time ?
This test take longer time because it involve growing the actual microorganisms and the process is slow.
4. Are these tests important?
This test is used to diagnose serious lung infections that cannot be detected reliably with routine sputum or throat tests.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
