TORCH is a group of infections screened in pregnancy or when congenital infection is suspected. The IgG antibody tests detect past exposure or immunity to each agent. The components tested in Torch are: Toxoplasma gondii (toxoplasmosis), Rubella, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 & 2). This test is used in Antenatal screening to assess maternal immunity and fetal risk. Investigating neonatal illness or suspected congenital infection. Preconception screening in some cases.

1. What is Serology?
A serology test is a laboratory blood test that detects and measures antibodies or antigens in the blood to determine whether a person has been exposed to, infected by, or developed immunity to a particular disease.

Fasting is not required.

Sample before 10am tues, report same day.
4. Why this test is important ?
The TORCH IgG test detects IgG antibodies against a group of infections that can cause serious complications during pregnancy and in newborns.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
