Antibodies against dsDNA are specific for systemic Lupus erythromatosus, they are serological marker for this disease with a prevalence of 20-90%. Antibodies against dsDNA are also occasionally detected in patients with other autoimmune diseases and rarely, in clinically healthy people. The definite diagnosis should be made by the physician after all clinical and lab finding have been evaluated.

A serology test is a laboratory blood test that detects and measures antibodies or antigens in the blood to determine whether a person has been exposed to, infected by, or developed immunity to a particular disease.

Anti-dsDNA antibodies are autoantibodies directed against the body’s own DNA. Detection of these antibodies using ELISA is a critical tool in diagnosing and monitoring autoimmune diseases, particularly Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
