About This Test
Parvovirus B19 is the causative agent of Fifth disease (Erythema infectiosum) which usually produces a mild illness. The virus is also associated with Hydrops fetalis, Aplastic crises and Arthralgia. Detection of IgM antibodies indicate recent infection. The antibodies appear soon after onset of illness and peak within 30 days.
