MRI Iron Quantification of the liver is used to:
- Detect iron accumulation in the liver (hepatic siderosis)
- Monitor patients with thalassemia, sickle cell disease, hemochromatosis, or chronic transfusion therapy
- Guide treatment decisions, such as iron-chelation therapy
- Monitor response to treatment
- Prevent liver damage due to iron overload
No contrast is usually required for iron quantification of the heart.
