The GeneXpert (CBNAAT – Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) is a molecular test used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis — the bacteria that cause TB — and to identify rifampicin resistance, an important marker of drug-resistant TB. It works by using real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) technology to detect TB bacterial DNA and mutations linked to drug resistance, all in a single automated cartridge-based system. Detects TB DNA directly from samples like Sputum, Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), Pleural fluid, Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), Lymph node aspirate / tissue biopsy, Urine but not in blood or a specimen having blood. This test is highly specific and sensitive.

1. What is molecular testing?
Molecular testing is a type of laboratory test that analyzes molecules in the body—usually DNA, RNA, or proteins—to detect diseases, infections, genetic conditions, or other biological changes using advanced technique like PCR.
2. Do I need special preparation?
For Urine, Morning first whole urine sample is required, rest specimen no preparation is required
3. How long does reporting take?
Mon-Sat Sample before 11am, report same day. After 11 am or sunday, report nex day.
4. Why this test is important ?
Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Complex (GeneXpert) test is important because it allows rapid and highly accurate detection of tuberculosis (TB) and rifampicin resistance, helping in early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of drug-resistant TB spread.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
