Peripheral Smear for Micro-Filaria

Also Known As: Microfilaria
The Peripheral Smear for Microfilaria test is a microscopic examination of the blood to detect microfilariae, the larval forms of filarial worms. Filariasis is an infectious disease that spreads through mosquito bite which releases parasitic filaria worms into our blood circulation. Symptoms include recurrent fever (especially at night), swelling of limbs, scrotum (elephantiasis, hydrocele). This disease can lead to thickened hard skin with swollen & enlarged body parts called Elephantiasis. This test detects the filaria worms in your body.

3. How long does reporting take?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, reports same day and Sunday reports next day.
4. Why this test is important ?
P/S for microfilaria is important because it directly detects filarial parasites in blood, confirming lymphatic filariasis and related infections.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
