The Histopathology (Small) test refers to microscopic examination of small tissue specimens taken from the body through:
1. Biopsy (punch, needle, endoscopic, shave)
2. Small excision
3. Curettage
4. Minor surgical procedures
The sample is processed, stained (commonly with H&E), and examined under a microscope by a pathologist to study the morphology of cells and tissues. The purpose of the test is to detect abnormal, inflammatory, benign, precancerous, or cancerous changes in tissues. This test studies small sized tissues removed by operation from various organs like cervix, appendix, fallopian tubes, conjunctiva & all endoscopic / incision biopsies.
Submit specimen in 10% formal saline. Formal saline should cover the specimen completely.
