Prothrombin Time (PT With INR)

HAEMATOLOGY

Prothrombin Time (PT With INR)

Also Known As: INR
The Prothrombin Time (PT) test measures how long it takes for blood to clot through the extrinsic and common coagulation pathways. It is commonly combined with INR (International Normalized Ratio) to standardize results across different labs and reagents. The test is done to monitor anticoagulant therapy, pre-surgical screening, suspected bleeding disorders and more. Prolonged PT has been observed in congenital or acquired deficiencies of factor II,V,VII,X or fibrinogen, Liver failure, Vitamin K antagonist /hypovitaminosis K, Fibrinolysis, DIC.

1. What are hematology tests?
Hematology tests are blood tests that study blood cells and related parameters to assess overall health and detect blood-related disorders.
2. Do I need to report fasting?
This Test does not require fasting.
3. How soon will I get reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, reports same day and Sunday reports next day.
4. Why this test is important ?
The PT-INR test is important because it measures blood clotting ability, monitors anticoagulant therapy, detects clotting or bleeding disorders, assesses liver function, ensures surgical safety, and helps prevent excessive clotting or bleeding.
5. Are the machines automated?
Yes, fully automated analysers are used.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
