HAEMATOLOGY

Platelet Distribution Width (PDW)

Also Known As: PDW
Platelet Distribution Width (PDW) is a parameter reported in a Complete Blood Count (CBC) that measures the variation in platelet size (anisocytosis of platelets). It indicates how uniform or diverse the platelets are in size, helping assess platelet activation and bone marrow function. PDW increases when platelets are more active or responding to inflammation. This test signify cardiovascular risk marker, infections like dengue, differentiating causes of thrombocytopenia.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
