A Peripheral Smear test is a microscopic examination of a thin layer of blood spread on a glass slide, stained (usually with Leishman or Wright stain), and evaluated under a microscope. It provides direct visualization of RBCs, WBCs,Platelet cells, abnormal blood cells, parasites, and morphological changes. A Peripheral Smear helps to evaluate anemia, detecting infections and blood parasites, assessing qualitative abnormalities of blood cells, diagnosing leukemia and other blood cancers etc.

1. What are hematology tests?
Hematology tests are blood tests that study blood cells and related parameters to assess overall health and detect blood-related disorders.
2. Do I need to report fasting?
This Test does not require fasting.
3. How soon will I get reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, reports same day and Sunday reports next day.
4. Why this test is important ?
The Peripheral Smear test is important because it detects abnormal red and white blood cells and platelets, helps diagnose anemia, infections, and blood cancers, guides further testing, and monitors disease progression or treatment.
5. Are the machines automated?
Yes, fully automated analysers are used.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
