The Facial or Blink Reflex Test is a specialized neurodiagnostic procedure used to evaluate the integrity and function of the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) and the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V). It measures the electrical responses generated when the facial muscles contract in reaction to a controlled stimulus, usually delivered near the eye or forehead. During the test, small surface electrodes are placed on the face to record muscle activity, while a mild electrical stimulus is applied to the trigeminal nerve. This triggers the blink reflex, a protective mechanism that causes the eyelid to close rapidly. This test is crucial for diagnosing a variety of conditions, such as Bell’s palsy, facial nerve paralysis, hemifacial spasm, trigeminal neuralgia, brainstem lesions, and post-surgical nerve injury. It can also help determine the extent of nerve damage and predict recovery outcomes. The blink reflex study provides detailed information about both the sensory and motor pathways involved in facial movement. It is non-invasive, safe, and highly reliable for evaluating subtle or early nerve dysfunction.

2. Patient may feel some pain of needle pricks / current stimulation 
3. Apply no body lotion. 
4. Bring old record.
5. Patient required to lie down with no movement . 
6.Following directions of applying force in opposite direction is important for test. So it is not possible in small children who can  not follow directions. Similarly it is not possible after oral / IV sedation.

TAT Policy

The Turnaround Time (TAT) for a test depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

Please note that in uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to the complexity of the test or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed about the estimated TAT at the time of registration or after completion of the test.
