About This Test
This specialized NCV study evaluates nerve conduction in the upper limbs along with a detailed assessment of the brachial plexus (Special nerves like musculocutaneous, axillary and ABCN)—the major nerve network that controls shoulder, arm, and hand function. The test identifies nerve signal delays or blocks that may indicate compression, injury, inflammation, or systemic nerve disease. It is commonly ordered for patients with arm weakness, numbness, tingling, shoulder pain, or suspected nerve injury due to trauma, repetitive strain, or tumors. The combined approach helps distinguish between nerve root problems (from the spine), plexus injuries, and peripheral nerve compression. By assessing conduction through the brachial plexus, doctors can pinpoint the exact location of nerve involvement, whether in the roots, trunks, cords, or branches. The test is essential for evaluating conditions like thoracic outlet syndrome, brachial neuritis, and traction injuries.
