About This Test
X-ray fistulogram (also called a fistulography) is an imaging test used to evaluate a fistula—an abnormal connection between two body surfaces (often skin to an internal organ, or two internal organs). A radiologist inserts a small catheter into the external opening of the fistula and gently injects a contrast dye. X-ray images are taken as the contrast flows through the fistula tract. This outlines its path, length, branches, and any internal connections.Real-time X-ray (fluoroscopy) may be used to watch how the contrast moves.
it shows The path of the fistula Whether it has multiple tracts Where it originates and terminates Presence of abscesses or cavities
