IVP is diagnostic x ray based procedure to evaluate kidneys ureter and bladder. contrast is instilled in vein of upper limb and multiple sequential films taken. Pt is advised to come nil orally. It is also used to confirm location of calculi.

Preparation / Prerequisite
Fasting Required with bowel preparation (example - Dulcolax 2 tab + Charcoal 4 tab the previous night).
Check renal status and rule out compromised renal function
To rule out pregnancy.
Rule out allergy to iodinated drugs , any iodinated contrast used in the past.
