Tzanck Smear

CYTOPATHOLOGY

Tzanck Smear

The Tzanck smear is a rapid cytological test used to diagnose vesicular (blistering) and ulcerative skin conditions. It helps detect characteristic Tzanck cells—large multinucleated giant cells—seen in viral infections and some autoimmune blistering diseases. The test is quick, inexpensive, and provides immediate results.
