Fluid for pH

A fluid pH test measures the acidity or alkalinity of body fluids. It is most commonly performed on pleural, ascitic, pericardial, synovial, CSF, CAPD dialysis fluid. pH helps diagnose infection (bacterial / empyema), complicated vs. uncomplicated effusions, malignancy, rheumatoid effusion, esophageal rupture (Boerhaave syndrome), inflammatory conditions.

1. What is cytopathology?
It involves examining cells from body fluids or minor procedures to detect infections or
cancer.
2. What samples are used?
Common samples include FNAC (needle aspiration), fluids, and Pap smears.
3. Is FNAC/Fluid aspiration painful?
It may cause slight discomfort but is generally well tolerated.
4. How soon are reports available?
Most cytology reports are ready within 24–48 hours.
5. Why is cytology done?
To identify lumps, swellings, infections and early cancerous changes.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
