About This Test
The 4D Parathyroid CT scan is a specialized dynamic imaging study used to detect parathyroid adenomas or hyperactive glands. “4D” refers to the three spatial dimensions combined with time-based contrast enhancement, allowing visualization of blood-flow patterns. This helps distinguish abnormal parathyroid tissue from surrounding structures. The scan is valuable for patients with hyperparathyroidism, elevated calcium levels, or failed previous localization attempts. It provides highly accurate mapping before minimally invasive parathyroid surgery. As this option includes only scan charges, consumables or contrast materials may not be part of the package. Multiple phases are acquired to study wash-in and wash-out patterns of suspected glands. The technique improves surgical success by giving precise localization, even for ectopic or deep-seated glands. It is especially beneficial when ultrasound or sestamibi scans are inconclu
