Cholesterol

Also Known As: Chol Serum Cholestrol S. Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a fat-like (lipid) substance essential for cell membrane structure, synthesis of steroid hormones, bile acids, and vitamin D. It is transported in the bloodstream bound to lipoproteins such as LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) and HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein). The total cholesterol test is a key indicator of lipid metabolism and an important marker for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.
