Also Known As: Stool Occult Blood Stool O/B Urine Occult Blood
The Occult Blood Test (OBT) detects hidden blood in multiple specimens like stool, urine, vomit but mostly done in faeces(stool). Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) detects hidden (microscopic) blood in stool that is not visible to the naked eye. It is a common screening test for gastrointestinal bleeding. This test helps in diagnosis of Gastrointestinal Bleeding due to Peptic ulcers, Gastritis, Colitis, Intestinal polyps, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Hemorrhoids may give false positives.The test also helps in evaluation of Iron Deficiency Anemia and also screens for Colorectal Cancer.Patient preperation prior to test is important.
