Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) is one of the major classes of lipoproteins in plasma, synthesized by the liver. It primarily transports endogenous triglycerides (produced in the liver) and small amounts of cholesterol to peripheral tissues. VLDL is considered atherogenic, meaning it contributes to plaque formation in arteries. Hence, elevated VLDL levels are associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD), atherosclerosis, and metabolic syndrome.
