Urine For Glucose (Quantitative)

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Urine For Glucose (Quantitative)

Also Known As: Urinary Sugar
Glucose is the primary energy source for body cells. Under normal conditions, nearly all filtered glucose is reabsorbed by the renal tubules, and only trace amounts (if any) appear in urine. The Urine for Glucose (Quantitative) test measures the exact amount of glucose excreted in urine over 24 hours, helping in the assessment of diabetes mellitus, renal tubular function, and glucose metabolism disorders. It helps Assessment of Glucosuria (presence of glucose in urine), Diabetes Mellitus Evaluation In uncontrolled diabetes, high plasma glucose surpasses the renal threshold, leading to glucose loss in urine.

  • URINE FOR GLUCOSE (QUANTITATIVE)
1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
No, Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — a quantitative urine glucose test can help detect early health problems, but it is less sensitive than blood tests like fasting glucose or HbA1c. It mainly reflects abnormal blood sugar levels or renal tubular dysfunction.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
