Urinary Protein (24Hrs)

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Urinary Protein (24Hrs)

Also Known As: 24 hrs urine Protein
The Urinary Protein (24-hour) test measures the total amount of protein excreted in urine over 24 hours. Under normal physiological conditions, only minute quantities of plasma proteins (<150 mg/day) pass into the urine because the glomerular filtration barrier and renal tubules efficiently prevent significant protein loss. Increased protein excretion, called proteinuria, reflects renal damage or systemic disorders affecting glomeruli or tubules. Thus, this test is essential for detecting, classifying, and monitoring kidney disease.

24 Hours Urine Sample Collection Instructions

1. Start your 24 hours urine collection in the morning.
2. Do not collect the first urine of the day, but mark this as your start time.
3. Collect all the urine for the next 24 hours in the collection container. In order to get correct results, it is important to collect every urine sample.
4. The last urine sample should be as close to the starting time as possible and must be saved.
5. Do not urinate into the main container directly as it might have potentially hazardous preservatives and you might get splashed.
6. If the container has a preservative, please mix every time you add urine to the container.
7. Please remember to keep urine in container in refrigerator or cool temperature.
8. Once the urine collection has been completed, the containers need to be taken to the lab as soon as possible.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
No, Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — a 24-hour urinary protein test can detect early health problems, particularly kidney disease.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
