Uric Acid

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Uric Acid

Also Known As: UA Serum Uric Acid S. UA
The Uric Acid Blood Test measures the amount of uric acid present in the blood. Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism, which comes from the breakdown of nucleic acids (DNA, RNA) and dietary purines. It is normally filtered by the kidneys and excreted in urine. An imbalance in uric acid production or excretion may lead to hyperuricemia (high levels) or hypouricemia (low levels), both of which can have clinical significance. This test helps evaluate kidney function, metabolic activity, and risk of gout or uric acid stone formation.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
No, Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — a uric acid test can detect early health problems, particularly metabolic, kidney, and cardiovascular issues.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
