Unsaturated Iron Binding Capicity (UIBC)

About This Test
The Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC) test measures the reserve capacity of transferrin (the main iron-transport protein in blood) to bind additional iron.
In other words, it estimates how much more iron can be bound to transferrin beyond what is already occupied by circulating serum iron.
Together with Serum Iron and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC), this test helps assess the body’s iron status, assisting in the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia, iron overload disorders, and chronic diseases affecting iron metabolism.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
No, Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — a UIBC (Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity) test can help detect early health problems, particularly related to iron metabolism, but it is most useful when interpreted together with serum iron and TIBC.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
