Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) measures the blood’s capacity to bind iron with transferrin, a protein that transports iron in the bloodstream. It helps evaluate how well iron is being carried and utilized in the body. TIBC reflects the amount of transferrin available to bind iron, and it’s often used along with serum iron and transferrin saturation tests to assess iron status. If patient treated with iron supplements or metal binding drugs, the drug bound iron may not properly react in the test, resulting in falsely low values. Clinically, this test is used to evaluate body iron status, to differentiate types of anemia (iron deficiency vs. anemia of chronic disease), to monitor iron therapy or iron overload treatments, to assist in diagnosis of hemochromatosis.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
No, Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — a TIBC test (Total Iron-Binding Capacity) can help detect early health problems, particularly related to iron status and certain chronic conditions.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
