About This Test
The Spot Urine Sodium Test measures the concentration of sodium (Na⁺) in a single random urine sample.
It reflects the amount of sodium being excreted by the kidneys at that moment and provides valuable insight into fluid balance, renal function, and causes of electrolyte disturbances.
It is often used along with serum sodium and urine creatinine to help determine whether the kidneys are appropriately conserving or excreting sodium in various clinical conditions.
This test is used to evaluate causes of hyponatremia (low blood sodium), Differentiate types of acute kidney injury (AKI), assess volume status and renal tubular function, monitor diuretic therapy or salt-wasting conditions, assist in diagnosis of adrenal or hormonal disorders.
