About This Test
The Spot Urine Protein/Creatinine Ratio (PCR) test measures the amount of protein loss in urine in relation to creatinine concentration in a single urine sample. It provides an accurate estimate of 24-hour urinary protein excretion without needing a 24-hour urine collection.
This makes it a convenient and reliable test for screening and monitoring proteinuria (protein loss in urine).
There may be a transient proteinuria due to an infection, medication, vigorous exercise, or emotional or physical stress. In pregnant
women, elevated urine protein levels can be associated with preeclampsia.
In a random urine specimen, a protein/creatinine can be used roughly to approximate 24-hour excretion rates.
False-positive urine protein levels may be due to contamination of urine with menstrual blood, prostatic secretions, or semen.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
No, Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — the spot urine Protein/Creatinine Ratio (PCR) can detect early health problems, especially early kidney damage.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
