Spot urinary Calcium

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Spot urinary Calcium

Also Known As: Random Urine Ca
The Spot Urinary Calcium test measures the amount of calcium excreted in a single random urine sample. Calcium is a vital mineral for bone formation, nerve function, and muscle contraction. Normally, the kidneys regulate calcium levels carefully — excreting only small amounts. Therefore, abnormal urinary calcium levels can indicate parathyroid, bone, or renal tubular disorders. This test is often paired with urinary creatinine to calculate the Calcium/Creatinine Ratio (Ca/Cr Ratio) for a more reliable assessment of calcium excretion. This test helps in screen for hypercalciuria (especially in recurrent kidney stone patients), Monitor calcium balance in metabolic bone disorders, monitor response to therapy in parathyroid or vitamin D disorders.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
No, Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — a spot urinary calcium test can help detect early health problems, especially those related to calcium metabolism, kidney stone risk, and certain hormonal disorders.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
