The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test measures the level of PSA protein in the blood. PSA is a glycoprotein enzyme produced mainly by the prostate gland (a male reproductive organ located below the bladder). It plays a key role in liquefying semen after ejaculation. Normally, only small amounts of PSA enter the bloodstream. Higher PSA levels may indicate: Prostate cancer, Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (non-cancerous prostate enlargement), Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), Urinary tract infection or trauma
