The Lithium blood test measures the level of lithium in the bloodstream. Lithium is primarily used as a medication for bipolar disorder, Mania, Depression (as augmentation therapy), Schizoaffective disorder. Because lithium has a narrow therapeutic range, regular monitoring is essential to avoid both low (ineffective) and high (toxic) levels. It is advised to give the sample before the next dose due. This test is done for routine monitoring during therapy, adjusting lithium dosage, suspected lithium toxicity,.
