CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Lipase

Also Known As: Serum Lipase S Lipase
The Lipase test measures the level of lipase, an enzyme produced mainly by the pancreas. Lipase helps break down dietary fats. When the pancreas is inflamed or damaged, lipase levels in the blood rise significantly. The Lipase test is primarily used to: 1. Diagnose acute pancreatitis (most common use) 2. Monitor chronic pancreatitis 3. Detect pancreatic duct obstruction 4. Evaluate abdominal pain, especially upper abdominal pain 5. Check for complications from gallstones or alcohol use 6. Monitor pancreatic disorders after surgery or injury

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
