Insulin Fasting

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Insulin Fasting

Also Known As: Fasting Insulin
The Fasting Insulin Test measures the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas after an overnight fast (8–10 hours). It helps evaluate insulin resistance, pancreatic beta-cell function, and risk of developing diabetes. Insulin is a hormone that allows glucose to enter cells. Abnormal fasting insulin levels may reflect early metabolic disorders even when fasting glucose appears normal. Insulin is produced by beta cells of the pancreas. It leads to Type 1 (IDDM) diabetes caused by Insulin deficiency & Type 2 (NIDDM) diabetes caused by insulin resistance. This assay is useful in the management of Diabetes. It is also used for diagnosing Insulinoma when used in conjunction with Proinsulin and C-peptide measurement.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Yes, Fasting is required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes. Fasting insulin testing can detect early metabolic health problems—especially early insulin resistance.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
