About This Test
The HDL Cholesterol test measures the level of High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) in the blood.
HDL is known as the “good cholesterol” because it helps remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and transport it to the liver for disposal. Monitoring of HDL-cholestrol is important in the assessment of atherosclerotic risk. Elevated HDL-cholestrol concentrations protect against coronary heart disease (CHD), whereas reduced HDL-cholestrol concentrations, particularly in conjunction with elevated triglycerides, increase cardiovascular risk.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes. HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol testing can help detect early health problems—especially those related to heart, metabolic, and lifestyle-related risks. It is most useful as an early warning marker.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
