The Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) evaluates how the body responds to a glucose load. Multiple timed blood samples are taken to assess glucose metabolism, insulin response, and to diagnose diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. This specific protocol includes samples at Fasting (0 min), 1 hour, 90 minutes, 2 hours (120 min), 2.5 hours (150 min) after consuming the glucose drink. This test is done to diagnose Diabetes Mellitus, diagnose Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT), evaluate reactive hypoglycemia, assess glucose handling in patients with borderline sugars and monitor prediabetes progression.

2 mL (1 mL min.) plasma from 1 Grey Top (Sodium Fluoride) tube for each timed specimen. Draw baseline fasting specimen. Dissolve 110 g of glucose monohydrate (equivalent to 100 g anhydrous glucose) in 300 mL water. Administer orally over a period of 5 minutes. Draw additional specimens at 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0 hrs. Note time drawn on each container label.  Overnight fasting is mandatory. transport refrigerated or frozen.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Yes, Fasting is required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes. GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) with multiple time points – Fasting, 1 hr, 90 min, 120 min, 150 min – can help in early detection of several metabolic problems, especially those related to glucose handling and insulin function.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
