Fluid For Amylase

Also Known As: Fluid for Amy
The Fluid for Amylase test measures the level of amylase enzyme in fluids collected from body cavities—most commonly in Ascitic fluid (abdominal fluid), Pleural fluid (around the lungs), Peritoneal fluid, Pericardial fluid. Amylase in body fluids helps identify pancreatic disorders, gastrointestinal perforations, and certain infections or malignancies. It detects increased levels of amylase in fluids like pleural fluid in cases of Acute pancreatitis and Pancreatic pseudocyst. It may also be elvated in cases of Peptic ulcer and Mesenteric vascular occlusion.
