Creatinine

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Creatinine

Also Known As: Cr Creat
Creatinine is a waste product formed from the normal breakdown of muscle creatine. It is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys and excreted through urine. Because creatinine is produced at a relatively constant rate and cleared almost entirely by the kidneys, its level in the blood is an important indicator of kidney function. This test is done to assess kidney (renal) function, detect acute kidney injury (AKI) or chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is essential for diagnosing CKD stages (1–5) through eGFR calculation, helps in decisions regarding dialysis initiation, drug dosing adjustments, monitoring nephrotoxic drugs.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes, Creatinine is a very important marker that helps detect kidney and some metabolic health problems.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
