This stimulation test measures how the adrenal glands respond to adenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) which is produced by pituitary gland and it stimulates the adrenal glands to release cortisol hormone. - Cortisol in the blood is measured before and after an ACTH injection. - An increase in cortisol after stimulation by ACTH is expected. Cortisol level after ACTH stimulation should be higher than 20 ug/dL depending on the type of cortisol assay used and on the dose of ACTH used. This test is helpful in finding out - Acute adrenal crisis (life threatening condition that occurs when there is not enough cortisol) - Addision disease (adrenal glands do not produse enough cortisol) - Hypopituitarism (Pituitary gland is not producing enough hormones as ACTH)

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Yes, Fasting is required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — Cortisol stimulation by ACTH (ACTH stimulation test) can help detect health problems, particularly those related to adrenal gland function.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
