Bicarbonate, Serum

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Bicarbonate, Serum

Also Known As: HC03 Serum Bicarbonate
The bicarbonate content of serum or plasmas is a significant indicator of electrolyte dispersion and anion deficit. Together with pH determination , bicarbonate measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous potentially serious disorders associated with acid-base imbalance in the respiratory and metabolic systems. Some of these conditions are diarrhea , renal tubular acidosis , carbonic anhydrase inhibitors , hyperkalemic acidosis , renal failure and ketoacidosis.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, electrolytes and bicarbonate.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — bicarbonate (HCO₃⁻) in the blood can indirectly detect or indicate health problems, because it’s a key component of the body’s acid-base balance.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
