Beta HCG (Tumour Marker)

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Beta HCG (Tumour Marker)

Also Known As: HCG Human Chorionic Gonadotropin
A beta-HCG tumor marker test is a blood test that measures levels of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to help diagnose and monitor certain cancers, particularly germ cell tumors in the testes and ovaries, and gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD). In both men and women, abnormally high hCG levels can indicate cancer, as some tumor cells produce this hormone. The test is also used to assess a patients response to treatment and monitor for cancer recurrence.
