Anti Streptolysin O Titre (ASO)

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Anti Streptolysin O Titre (ASO)

Also Known As: ASO Titre or ASO
The ASO blood test detects antibodies to Streptococcus pyogenes and helps confirm recent or past streptococcal infection, particularly in cases of rheumatic fever or post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis. The ASO test measures the level of antibodies (antistreptolysin-O) produced by the body in response to infection with Group A β-hemolytic Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes). These bacteria produce streptolysin-O, a toxin that damages red blood cells and tissues. When the body is infected, it develops ASO antibodies to neutralize this toxin. Elevated ASO levels therefore indicate recent or past streptococcal infection. • Elevated values of ASO are consistent with an antecedent infection by group A streptococci. • Infections by the group A streptococci are unique because they can be followed after a period of latency by serious complications such as rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, electrolytes and Aso.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Fasting is not required for Aso
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
ASO (Antistreptolysin O) testing helps detect early health problems by identifying antibodies against streptococcal bacteria.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
