Albumin

About This Test
Albumin is the most abundant plasma protein, accounting for about 60% of total plasma protein. It is synthesized exclusively by the liver and serves several vital physiological roles:
Maintains colloid osmotic (oncotic) pressure of plasma ;
Serves as a carrier protein for bilirubin, hormones, fatty acids, drugs, and calcium ;
Reflects nutritional status and liver synthetic function.
The determination of albumin is significant in various disease conditions. Hyper-albuminemia is of little diagnostic significance except in cases of dehydration . Hypo-albuminemia is of clinical significance as a low albumin might cause a drift in the osmotic pressure and lead to edema. The determination of albumin allows monitoring of a controlled patient dietary supplementation and serves also as an excellent test of liver function .

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Fasting is not required for ALB
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Albumin testing helps detect early health problems by assessing protein levels in the blood.
Abnormal albumin levels may indicate liver disease, kidney disorders, chronic infections, inflammation, or poor nutrition, enabling early medical intervention.

TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
