About This Test
The 17-OHP test measures the level of 17-hydroxyprogesterone, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands and gonads (ovaries/testes). It helps evaluate adrenal gland function and diagnose congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) — a genetic disorder affecting cortisol production.
Congenital 21-hydroxylase deficiency is the most common variety of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) where 17 OHP is secreted in abundant excess.
CAH is a collection of inherited conditions with not enough cortisol and excess of androgen hormone which can lead to life threatening, salt wasting crisis in the new born period and incorrect gender assignment of virtualized females.
Adult onset CAH may results in hirsutism and infertility in females.
The method used is ELISA.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure common tests like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, electrolytes and 17-OHP.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before this test?
Fasting is not required for 17-OHP.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Sample before 10 am thurs, reports same day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes. 17-OHP is of clinical interest in congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) where 17 OHP is secreted in abundant excess.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
