Thyroid Function Tests in Delhi
Thyroid disorders affect ~10% of Indian adults, yet most cases are undiagnosed. Here’s the practical guide to thyroid blood testing.
Standard thyroid panel
TSH (~₹250): the screening test. High = hypothyroidism; low = hyperthyroidism.
Free T4 (~₹300): direct measure of active thyroid hormone.
Free T3 (~₹300): less commonly abnormal, useful in specific cases.
Total panel (TSH + T3 + T4): ~₹650.

When to add antibodies (anti-TPO / anti-TG)
If TSH is abnormal, anti-TPO antibodies confirm Hashimoto’s (the most common cause of hypothyroidism in India). Worth doing once at diagnosis; not needed on follow-ups.
How often should I retest?
On treatment + stable: every 6–12 months. Dose change: 6 weeks later. Pregnancy: every trimester. New symptoms: anytime.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to fast for a thyroid test?
No fasting needed. Most centres recommend a morning sample for consistency, since TSH varies through the day.
