About This Test
Scrotal Doppler ultrasound is a key non-invasive imaging technique used to evaluate the testes, epididymis, and surrounding scrotal structures. It combines high-resolution grayscale imaging with color and spectral Doppler to assess both anatomy and blood flow. This examination is essential in the evaluation of acute scrotal pain, suspected testicular torsion, epididymo-orchitis, trauma, and scrotal masses.Doppler assessment helps differentiate conditions based on vascular patterns. In testicular torsion, absent or significantly reduced intratesticular flow is a critical diagnostic indicator requiring urgent intervention. The study also identifies varicoceles, characterized by dilated veins with augmented flow on Valsalva, and hydroceles or spermatoceles, which appear as fluid collections.Scrotal Doppler is safe, widely available, and provides real-time functional information.
