Orbits Both Sides (B Scan)

Also Known As: Orbital Ultrasound B-Scan Ultrasound B scan for retina detachment

About This Test

Orbit ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique used to evaluate the globe, extraocular muscles, optic nerve, and orbital soft tissues. It provides high-resolution, real-time imaging, particularly useful in assessing masses, hemorrhages, foreign bodies, retinal detachment, vitreous opacities, and optic nerve abnormalities. Both A-mode and B-mode ultrasonography are employed: B-mode gives two-dimensional structural details.Color Doppler imaging can assess vascularity in orbital tumors or inflammatory lesions. The examination is performed with the patient supine, eyes closed, and a coupling gel applied over the eyelids to ensure optimal sound transmission. Orbital ultrasound is safe, radiation-free, portable, and repeatable, making it valuable in ophthalmology and emergency settings.
